Abrahm Mesner, Austro-Hungarian army

A 1921 obituary for Abraham Mesner lists him as having served with the Austro-Hungarian army.

He was born in 1886 in Galicia and lived in Vienna. Any ideas on how to learn more on his service?

The best people to help are @AOK4and @mercuryman, who both have special knowledge of the Austrian armed forces (KuK) in WW1, I’m sure they’ll happen along soon.

Hello,

I don't know much about the Austro-Hungarian Army I'm afraid. I do have heard about its military archives though, see https://www.archivinformationssystem.at/detail.aspx?ID=13 and https://www.oesta.gv.at/

I couldn't find any Abrahm Mesner in the online Verlustlisten, see http://wiki-de.genealogy.net/Verlustlisten_Österreich-Ungarns_1914-1919 (I think the project is still not finished though).

Thank you both.
I should correct my original post - he was born in 1896.
I've searched the Verluslisten before posting here but wouldn't he appear there only if he was injured or POW?

I think this might be him listed under his mother's maiden name: http://des.genealogy.net/search/show/17383869

Any special input on the information found here?

Abraham Backenroth is born in 1893, so it can't be your man.

Have you tried the military archives? They may have all the information you want.

He was born in 1896 and this listing is for 1893 - it seems quite close to be considered, don't you think?

I am not yet sure which archive would be relevant as he was originally from Galicia but lived in Vienna and it's possible he was also living in other regions through his studies. Would appreciate advice on where he may be recorded.

You wrote in the first post that he was born in 1886... Anyway even 3 years is way off and a wrong family name?

I have given you the links to the central military archive. As far as I understand they have all files of the former KuK army. Send them an email with everything you know (name, place of birth and exact date of birth). I don't know how the archive is structured but unless you give it a try, you'll never learn anything more.
