RoyalMale Posted 24 February , 2021 Share Posted 24 February , 2021 A diagonal line penned from one corner to another through a military document detailing a service personal file? What does it mean exactly? I am assuming it means retired? Could it mean anything else? Regards RM
Matlock1418 Posted 24 February , 2021 Share Posted 24 February , 2021 Or it is no longer relevant - perhaps superseded by a later version ?? :-)M
RoyalMale Posted 24 February , 2021 Author Share Posted 24 February , 2021 Hi Matlock1418, Thank you. I'm really not sure as the records contain many service personnel details. Some records have a line through and others not. The initial file instruction claims the persons are retired. However, I cannot find anything on when or where a particular person died. Seeing as they are from a prominent family, there appears to be a level of obscurity around them. I don't know if attention to detail matters here but some lines start from left to right diagonally and others right to left. Also, officers have signed their own documents which show dates they went on assignments but some return dates are missing. Hence the reason I'm confused over whether they retired or perished. It could explain exactly your suggestion. RM
clk Posted 24 February , 2021 Share Posted 24 February , 2021 Hi RM, Rather than trying to second guess it, might it be worth posting images of what you're looking at, so that Pals might be able to suggest more informed opinions? RoyalMale Posted 24 February , 2021 Author Share Posted 24 February , 2021 Hi Chris, I have considered that. However, I intend on writing a lengthy piece on this particular person so I really don't want to give anything away. It is both fascinating and bizarre as I started out on a totally different project which has now led me to analysing military records. Updates will be posted further down the line as I'm sure many will be interested. RM
