Remembered Today:

FamilySearch digitised records, originally TNA WO 35 Irish Situation, 1914-1922

Recommended Posts

I came across a FamilySearch catalogue record when looking for something else.

Ireland, War Office Administrative and Easter Rising records, 1914-1922

Great Britain. War Office. Army of Ireland(Main Author)

National Archives (Great Britain)(Repository)

These are all in TNA series WO 35 and are digitised microfilms which are only viewable at Familysearch  Family History Centres. However, they are free.

I had a look at a few sample records in TNA Discovery catalogue, an although one was otherwise viewable on Findmypast (pay website), the other record said it had not been digitised and must be viewed at TNA. (Perhaps it had been forgotten these records had been microfilmed previously?)

So if you are interested in these records, possibly there may be a FamilySearch Family History Centre  which is closer to you than TNA at Kew. Note,  currently there may be possible restrictions for corona virus.

For FamilyHistory Centres, see the FIBIS Fibiwiki page of that name.

Thanks Maureen,

Behind the FMP paywall there's a mix of WO 35, WO 141 and HO 144, lumped together under a general 1916-1922 category.

It's good to see how much is actually out in the wild via FamilySearch, as that'd greatly facilitate the sharing of a link with a local history society without requiring them to have a subscriber to any particular genealogy site.

The company Gale also have them, as part of their Archives Unbound series. Sadly like a lot of these interesting records only available to academic institutions.
