Allan1892 Posted 17 February Share Posted 17 February Apologies for posting this as it is pre WW1 but I can't find an answer elsewhere. The Registers for Royal Marines Pensions has a column entitled 'In what ship wounded and last served'. The majority of entries show a ship's name but there are a number on each page that shows '1DM' '2DM' etc. I have attached an example below (courtesy of Find My Past)
horatio2 Posted 17 February Share Posted 17 February Never seen this before but, since they are not ships, the probably refer to the RM Grand Divisions of the mid-19th Century. I would guess that they are Chatham (1), Portsmouth (2), Plymouth (3) and Woolwich (4). DM may stand for something like Divisional Muster. eg. Stephen BILLINGTON (Portsmouth) = https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C10093605 and Samuel BEARDMORE (Woolwich) = https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C10093605
