Soldiers Effects for the two above both have Mother, Jane as beneficiary.

Edit

1901 Census has Jane E. Gleaves, widow, with sons William (6) and John (4) amongst other siblings living in Salford.

In 1911 they are living in the same household as Henry Swindells. Jane and Henry stated to be married, but this crossed out and Single inserted. They do not appear to have ever married. Her death registered as Jane Greaves in 1926.

Pension records have no suggestion of remarriage - Jane Gleaves would have lost her widow's pension - no remarriage gratuity is indicated.

The pension claim is made "DEAD" in 1926

Many thanks - you seem to have solved another tricky one - and released William and John from obscurity.

....Three Holts on a headstone in the Southern Cemetery, Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Greater Manchester. Were they all brothers? John Pownall Holt's date of death is above his name, 11th January 1916.

....The other names on the gravestone are Benjamin, died 7th February 1911, aged 61, and his wife Frances Ann, died 5th July1923, aged 70.
