DavidIsby Posted 10 January , 2021 Share Posted 10 January , 2021 http://heir.arch.ox.ac.uk/pages/home.php?login=true The Historical Environment Image Resource (HEIR) database provides on-line digital access to historic photography held in Oxford University. Its focus are subjects including such as archaeology and past urban and rural landscapes. While MB-sized images are restricted, smaller versions are available for download. Searches on terms such as “World War1”, “Iraq” “artillery”, “ships” all produced some interesting images. Searches of “Hampstead” produced an image of the High Street in 1913 and “Ypres” pre-destruction images of some of the major buildings. An article in the December 2020 issue of CURRENT ARCHAEOLOGY provides background and further information on the database.
