You are quite right, in 1905 both RMA and RMLI discontinued separately badges universal pattern blue helmets and adopted a similar shaped white helmet with a common ball top.  That helmet was then replaced by the Wolseley pattern as you have described.  Thank you very much for pointing this out, it wasn’t something I’d noticed before, in part because of an overly biased attention to the pre 1905 period on my part.  It’s especially interesting because it was a relatively short period between the adoption of the first pattern ball topped white helmet and the Wolseley pattern that replaced it.

I’m fairly certain the universal helmet plate was adopted at the same time (1905). Essentially the RMLI and RMA both adopted the white helmet and ball, shown in the photo, in 1905. In 1912 they took to the Wolseley and in 1923 an all blue full dress uniform with features of both the RMLI and RMA was introduced.

Yes, I had just read that the universal RM star shaped badge was adopted at the same time as the first pattern RM white helmet in 1905.  It and the badge are shown clearly in the images I posted above.  The bugle horn at the bottom of the badge was dropped leaving just the anchor in its place.
