FROGSMILE Posted 2 January , 2021 Share Posted 2 January , 2021 (edited) His rank depends upon date really, before 1915 3 stripes and crown could be squadron sergeant major, battery sergeant major, colour sergeant or staff sergeant so one needed to see other insignia to determine which. However the crown part of the badge was generally larger than seen here. After 1915 the crown was made smaller and the rank was more closely defined to SQMS, BQMS, CQMS (known internally still as colour sergeant if infantry), and staff sergeant. In this case regimental buttons are being worn, but I can’t quite work out what they are. Edited 2 January , 2021 by FROGSMILE
