PRC Posted 31 December , 2020 Share Posted 31 December , 2020 The 1911 Census of England & Wales has 5 Albert Pegrum's who were born Waltham Abbey, (place of birth given on SDGW) and of an age that would have made them liable for service in the Great War - ages 35, 34, 20, 17 and an Albert W aged 17. There is no age or additional information on CWGC and no surviving service records that I could find. There is no Soldiers Will and no obvious Civil Probate. Can you let us know why you believe this Albert is the son of Alfred and Annie? Thanks, Peter

Sorry Stephen, Should have been a bit more explicit with my question. Coming at it with my genealogy head on and bearing in mind most of my experience comes from a Norfolk perspective so may not be universally applicable but for me a relatively uncommon surname in a fairly small area tends to mean that families are all likely to be related in some way. Given that it was common, at least then, for families to draw on a fairly small number of forenames that get replicated through the generations and the families tended to be larger, a father and sister name combination may not be unique enough to guarantee you have identified the right individual. I can do a lot of legwork to exclude the other candidates but was hoping you had more in the way of a "smoking gun" that instantly ruled them all out. Cheers, Peter
stephen p nunn Posted 31 December , 2020 Author Share Posted 31 December , 2020 Thanks Peter - I understand. No, sadly I don't have any other family references. However, thank you and Happy New Year to you. Best wishes. Stephen.
