Kelvin Huff Posted 30 December , 2020 Share Posted 30 December , 2020 Hi, Please can anyone identify the regiment and approx. date of these two soldiers? many thanks Kelvin Huff
PRC Posted 30 December , 2020 Share Posted 30 December , 2020 Top one is the Norfolk Regiment, but from what I've read on the forum over the years, the presence of the badges on the the collar for other ranks indicates post Great War. (But I'll leave it to experts to give you chapter and verse on that @FROGSMILE may be able to help you with the second picture, (and I promise that is the last time I will tag him in 2020!) SHJ Posted 30 December , 2020 Share Posted 30 December , 2020 The first one is Royal Norfolk Regiment - no idea about the second though!

Can't make out the "Royal", but if it is "Royal" instead of "The" then dates it to 1935 or later. Cheers, Peter

58 Div Mule Posted 30 December , 2020 Share Posted 30 December , 2020 I’m going to stick my neck out here. The second photo has the look of a civilian bandsman to me? By which I mean a member of a local brass band or similar without military connections. I’m now waiting to be proved wrong....... again 58 DM. FROGSMILE Posted 30 December , 2020 Share Posted 30 December , 2020 (edited) The first photo dates to the 1920s probably around 1924-25, after collar badges started to be worn and the new variant of cap. By the time the regiment was made Royal in adopted a simpler cap badge focusing on just the figure of Britannia without the surrounding Laurel wreath. The second photo definitely isn’t military, as mentioned. It has the look of a theatrical presentation to my eyes (perhaps he could sing opera, or similar), as most bands wore cap insignia, and usually a musical instrument would be included in the frame.
