Matlock1418 Posted 16 December , 2020 Share Posted 16 December , 2020 Putting up in case of interest to someone, now and/or in the future - Recently discovered this letter, see below: Sadly he was dead a mere month later. Also available: = LLT - suggests 9LF went via Mudros, but not via Alexandra (sic) as this letter suggests - maybe via both! = ??? = 34 Infantry Brigade: 9 Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers (1915 June - 1916 Jan). War Diary https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C4557452 [but only seems available via Ancestry - which unfortunately I can't access= ???] = CWGC https://www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/696808/CHARLES ALFRED CANNELL = Register of Soldier's Effects = 2 x Pension cards & 1 x Ledger = Medal Roll = MIC [2B Balkans (Gallipoli) 11.7.1915 = 1914-15 Star, BWM, VM] = Find a Grave [inscribed family headstone] = Ballaugh War Memorial commemoration There is an Ancestry tree for him too [not by me] From his number, rank and/or his £4 War Gratuity - Just wondering if anyone can please enlighten me as to possible date of enlistment [and where]. And of course anything more about him you may wish to present here. In hope. :-) M
