Hi all,

Hoping someone can help me to help someone else. Any information you geniuses ( I mean it. You are, with your knowledge) on the above soldier would be greatly appreciated. The name, numbers, regiment/ service come from a medal index card.

Many thanks for any help.

Regards. D.

There's an Ebbw Vale 1911 Census [2/4/1911]= Might be worth checking out further [Image available at Ancestry]

Head: Henry Gaydon, aged 25, born London [c.1886] Colliery Underground Labourer

Wife: Elizabeth, aged 24, born Bristol [married 4 years so c.1907]

Dau: Eillen, aged 3, born Bristol

Son: Alfred Henry, aged 1, born Cwm

At: 6 Stanfield St, Cwm, Monmouthshire

Census now looks very, very positive as matching

RAF Service record [brief summary] further gives 407511 Gaydon's occupation as Miner, Married Elizabeth in Bristol 13/10/1907, Children Eileen Florence A b.15/12/1907, Alfred Henry b. 26/6/1909 [and Daisy May b.17/10/1915 and Ella Lillian b.29/10/1917 Attested Ebbw Vale 16/10/1914

Also gives prior service 3rd Bn., Welsh Regiment Militia (3 Years)

[however see also a separate earlier SR/Attestation as 3WR2609, 8/1/1903 at Pontypridd - Father: Mr. Gaydon 39 Penfield St, Minor Road, Bristol - he was discharged 29/9/1904 as inefficient]

Attested: 16/10/1914

Posted to ASC 1/9/1916 [I wonder if delayed as he was a miner??]

Wounded 10/11/1917 Gas Poison Shell with 1/1 Herts, admitted 56 GH Etaples 11/11/1917

Transferred RFC 22/2/1918

To RAF 1/4/1918 [as one would expect!]

Both records available via Find My Past.
