HMS Daffodil and Able Seaman W KITSON [Tyneside Z/7799] RNVR.

This gentleman is buried in a cemetary I visit quite frequently and whose war graves I have done a moderate amount of research on. However I only recently realised something. That is that this man is said (by the CWGC) to have been associated with HMS Daffodil. The only problem I have is that supposedly the Mersey ferry Daffodil didnt become HMS Daffodil until 1918 and he dies on 3rd March 1916. Was there an earlier vessel I am missing? Or is the CWGC attribution erroneous?
