The war memorial was unveiled by Lt Col Campbell N Watson DSO & Bar of Rake Hall, Little Stanney, Cheshire. He served with the King’s Liverpool Regiment (1st & 4th Battalions, the Liverpool Pals). 52433 Private Thomas Butcher, 10th Battalion Cheshire Regiment, Died of Wounds on 10th December 1916. Son of Thomas and Sarah Butcher of Great Stanney, Cheshire. Aged 20 56414 Private Charles Henry Cadwallader, 9th Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Killed in Action on 20th September 1917. Son of Charles Henry and Mary Cadwallader of 2 Stanney Lane, Whitby, Cheshire. Aged 19 Second Lieutenant John Carter, 15th Battalion Durham Light Infantry. Killed in Action on 29th May 1918. Son of Edward and Martha Carter of Stanney, Cheshire. Aged 22 268047 Private Samuel Colclough, 1/6th Battalion Cheshire Regiment. Killed in Action on 26th July 1917. Son of James and Hannah Colclough, 3 Stanney Lane, Whitby, Cheshire. Aged 21 25158 Private Leonard William Davies, 13th Battalion Cheshire Regiment. Killed in Action on 7th July 1916. Son of Richard and Annie Davies of Vale Road, Whitby, Cheshire. Aged 36 SE/11972 Private George Devine, No 2 Reserve, Veterinary Hospital, Army Veterinary Corps. Died on 4th March 1917. Husband of Bertha Agnes Devine of The Rake, Little Stanney, Cheshire. Aged 32 W/1081 Private Frederick Dilworth, 9th Battalion Cheshire Regiment. Killed in Action on 25th March 1918. Son of Joseph and Catherine Dilworth of Bridge Cottage, Stoak, Cheshire. Aged 19 40131 Private Wilfred Dowie, 8th Battalion South Lancashire Regiment. Killed in Acton on 2nd August 1917. Son of William and Annie Dowie of Arrowe Lane, Whitby, Cheshire. Aged 20 10259 Private Ernest Gamble, 1st Battalion Cheshire Regiment. Killed in Action on 27th July 1916. Lived with Enoch and Annie Price of Yew Tree Farm, Little Stanney, Cheshire. Aged 20 31445 Private Albert Henry Nixon, 8th Battalion South Lancashire Regiment. Died of Wounds on 11th October 1916. Son of Ralph and Elizabeth Nixon of Woodland Road, Whitby, Cheshire.
