grayman Posted 27 November , 2020 Share Posted 27 November , 2020 Hi all, I've asked this question on the Manchester Regiment forum but to no avail. I've been re-directed to you experts on here. I'm colourising an old WW1 photo of my grandfather, he served in 1/5 Bn Manch Regt and I am trying to confirm the colour of the Bn recognition patches worn on his upper arm. I was told that originally 5th Bn was a yellow 5 on a green diamond but at some point changed to a red 5 on a yellow diamond. A write up on the 1/7 Bn stated that the Brigade patch was orange with the Bn numbers in red. On the b&w pic the number 5 is a lighter shade than the background suggesting yellow on green so not sure what to go for. Does anyone have any idea. Thank you. charlie2 Posted 27 November , 2020 Share Posted 27 November , 2020 I don‘t think it is quite fair to use the term „to no avail“, an answer to your question on the Manchesters forum was posted this morning at about 6am. http://themanchesters.org/forum/index.php?topic=11075.msg71175#msg71175 Charlie
grayman Posted 27 November , 2020 Author Share Posted 27 November , 2020 (edited) No disrespect to the Manchester Regt Forum. I have been a member for years. It was on two days with no replies. Mack said try the Great War Forum as a certain Charlie was certain to reply. That I presume is you so here we are talking as predicted.
