David_Blanchard Posted 27 November , 2020 Author Share Posted 27 November , 2020 Hi Jon, Thanks very much for these, but I was looking for a map a little earlier- I am researching the 53rd Brigade’s attack on Delville Wood on the 19-21 July 1916. John Milner Posted 27 November , 2020 Share Posted 27 November , 2020 Hello David The 53rd Brigade, 8th Norfolk, attacked the southern part of the wood just to right of Campbell Street, and were later reinforced by 8th Suffolk, 10th Essex and 6th Berkshire from same brigade. If you want a map with Campbell Street annotated send me a PM for a copy. John

WhiteStarLine Posted 29 November , 2020 Share Posted 29 November , 2020 This may be too late for you (1:10,000) but at least it shows the changes over 10 days - click to enlarge: Source WFA

Chris Bent Posted 27 January , 2021 Share Posted 27 January , 2021 I am trying to find the war diary of the 9th Infantry Brigade for July 1916. Researching the war diary for the 13th King's Liverpool, it says to look at the war diary for Headquarters 9th Infantry Brigade for details of the attacks on the 13/14 July and 23/24 July. Searching the National Archives has drawn a blank. Does anyone know where I can find this? Many thanks. Chris.

Chris Bent Posted 27 January , 2021 Share Posted 27 January , 2021 Thank you so much for that. I am researching the war of Sam Leavesley (King's Liverpool 13th Battalion). He was wounded at Bazentin le Grand / Delville Wood in July but survived the war.
brianmorris547 Posted 27 January , 2021 Share Posted 27 January , 2021 Chris It's also available on Ancestry in War Diaries via the Browse box. Under Various (Infantry Brigades - 3 Div) - Piece 1426/1-3 and Piece 1427 from August Brian
Chris Bent Posted 27 January , 2021 Share Posted 27 January , 2021 Thanks Brian. I often struggle finding War Diaries in Ancestry. Undoubtedly that's because of how I search. This has been a great journey learning about the July fighting around Delville Wood. Sam's grandchildren knew little of his experiences and are thrilled to have this history opened up for them.
