That's a nice clearly marked one!

 

Yes, I take your point, so to speak, but think on... Aside from the fact that many units went into WW1 with P.1903's or even P.1888's, HQ's would in theory be in use with all those nominally front-service units equipped and ready to go - lets say - August-December 1914. They would not be handing these back for de-hooking when there was no order specifying this, and there are certainly photographs around of guys in Palestine, etc., with them in 1917-1918.  Armourers at base might have time to spare to go around de-hooking, but I would think that those over in France had better things to do.
