Tasha87 Posted 22 November , 2020 Share Posted 22 November , 2020 (edited) Been going through family possessions and have come across 2 medals, and some writing from Pte. F.A. WILSON, these do not belong to our family and were apparently found when a drawer unit was bought many years ago and forgotten about until we were tidying today. We would like to get them returned to the rightful family. His regiment details: 11978 DEAL Edited 22 November , 2020 by Tasha87 Found more information
GWF1967 Posted 22 November , 2020 Share Posted 22 November , 2020 Hi, If they are Great War medals they should also have a service number before the name and a regiment after the name. With these details it will be possible to identify the man they were awarded to.
RNCVR Posted 22 November , 2020 Share Posted 22 November , 2020 Tasha the two medals will have the recipient's details (number, rank, name, & regiment\corps) impressed on their rims. If you could post those details here that might assist in obtaining some information on the recipient.

travers61 Posted 23 November , 2020 Share Posted 23 November , 2020 From the Royal Marines Section of the Naval Medal & Award Roll on ancestry he is: Private Frank A Wilson, Royal Marines, Service Number Deal 11978/S. Awarded British war Medal & Victory Medal. The Naval Silver War Badge Records on ancestry add: WILSON F.A. 11978. Pte RML ?C Silver War Badge no 15166 issued 15.9.17 Issued by RM Deal. No other notes & the badge is not noted as being refused or returned. This is the part I could not read, my best guess is Royal Marines Light Infantry:

Acknown Thanks for that ID, its not a unit I had heard of before. The prefix & end letter of his service number also match info in this thread.
