Ian C Posted 26 February , 2005 Share Posted 26 February , 2005 Just read with interest the thread on the first Turkish moves in the war in the Baku oilfields. However, I am trying to reach a man who died, I think in the same general area, at the other end of the war. George Mongomery. 273rd Railway Company, RE. Died August 1919 and buried in Batum, in Georgia. As I understand it he was part of a force of 15,000 that were sent there in late 1918 to protect the oilfields. Does anyone have any info on this force or know of any books I can read. Regards IanC
jonnyboy Posted 9 March , 2005 Share Posted 9 March , 2005 Ian, Forgive me if this isn't the force you mean but, "Dunsterforce" springs to mind. Led by Major General Lionel C. Dunsterville. Just put "Dunsterforce" in Google Search. There was also something called "Mallensons Mission" I saw mentioned on the "Great War Forum" but can't remember where and what it was under and can't find it on any searches ! Sorry if you already know of these. jonnyboy
