Dazscuba Posted 15 November , 2020 Share Posted 15 November , 2020 Found this chap on a grave in Burstwick East York’s but cannot find him at all on the CWGC records. It says that he was gassed in France and looks like he died at home. he has a MIC; Medals issued card And a pension ledger (Fold3 can’t see). can anybody suggest why he does not have a CWGC grave please? Pte 93069 Fred Walker DLI previously of the EYR 1160. his MIC shows he joined in 1915. his grave states died 14th Oct 1919. Ancestry.co.uk
Dai Bach y Sowldiwr Posted 15 November , 2020 Share Posted 15 November , 2020 (edited) His service (pension) record is in Ancestry. I have 't read it yet to establish if the cause of his death was aggravaged or caused by war service: Link Awarded disability pension on 16/5/19. Condition: " Malaria. Due to Bronchitis. Aggrav"[ated by war service]. Edit. I can see that gassing could give bronchitis, but I'd have put Malaria and bronchitis as I can't immediately see how bronchitis causes malaria. We don't know the cause of death. For CWGC commemoration, his death needs to be the same as what caused his discharge. You'd need to check his death certificate to establish that. Pension Card on WFA/Fold3 doesn't record/shed any light on cause of death just records "14-10-19 Died" :-) M Edited 15 November , 2020 by Matlock1418

One suspects/fears the repeated word "Bronchitis" found in a number of records may not have been war-related enough for I/CWGC :-/ M

I think it means it was a standard Sunday morning church service...but with more of an emphasis on Fred and his death. Did you see the report where he was known as Dick?
