pudsey63 Posted 14 November , 2020 Share Posted 14 November , 2020 Hi, I believe this man was in the Royal Naval Division. He died of wounds and is buried in Duisans Cemetery at Etrun. Is there any way of establishing when he was wounded? TIA
alf mcm Posted 14 November , 2020 Share Posted 14 November , 2020 His service record should tell you. It's available here for free if you register with T.N.A. https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D7859537 Regards, Alf McM

horatio2 Posted 14 November , 2020 Share Posted 14 November , 2020 His battalion, 1/RMLI, relieved 2/RMLI in the front line trenches at Gavrelle on the night of 14/15 August until relieved by 2/RMLI on the night of 19/20 August. During this 'quiet' trench period only one OR was reported wounded in the war diary. This could well have been Pte CAINE. 1/RMLI was out of the line in reserve on 26 August when he died.
