Remembered Today:

My grandfather served in 8th Black Watch. He was wounded and captured 25th September at the Battle of Loos, and died 10th October. I have visited his grave and have photographs etc. What puzzles me is the location of the cemetery . It is the municipal cemetery of Phalempin which is a village to the south of Lille. It is quite some distance from the battlefield. I would like to know what was there. A prison-camp? Hospital?

This was the site of a German CCS used during the battle. Soldiers who are buried here who died before late 1918 were wounded prisoners of war who succumbed to their wounds at this CCS.
