robbie56 Posted 12 November , 2020 Share Posted 12 November , 2020 (edited) I bought these medals, cap badge, photograph and “Manual of Prayers” a couple of days ago. All the items were together and I strongly believe the pieces are connected. Written on the side of both medals is B.Z. 5755 G.BONSHOE ORD. R.N.V.R. The surname is certainly not common to my area. If there’s a G. Bonshoe family member out there looking for their relative’s medals please let me know. ps - I’m a non-profit making organisation ! Regards, R. IPT Posted 12 November , 2020 Share Posted 12 November , 2020 Could be Charles Alfred Bonshor? He was born March 1898 in Woodhouse Eaves, Leicestershire and his death was registered in Loughborough in 1977.
horatio2 Posted 12 November , 2020 Share Posted 12 November , 2020 (edited) The medals were issued to Ordinary Seaman Charles Alfred BONSHOR (Bristol Z/5755) but he is incorrectly named on the RNVR Medal Roll as BOUSHOR. It is an officer's cap badge and not associated with this man's WW1 service. Edited 12 November , 2020 by horatio2
horatio2 Posted 12 November , 2020 Share Posted 12 November , 2020 (edited) I think the Missal (and photo??) are WW2. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Military-abridges-authorized-Casterne-Chaplains/dp/B000JIOW2K Edited 12 November , 2020 by horatio2
robbie56 Posted 12 November , 2020 Author Share Posted 12 November , 2020 Thanks. I’ve had a closer look with a magnifying glass and the medal has the name G. Bonshoe. I did think that an unusual name and the Bristol Z/5755 confirms incorrectly named. I’ll change the Title to Charles Bonshor.
