Blackburn Museum hold the memorial that was situated in Greenfield Mill, Darwen. The impressive memorial records those who lost their lives as well as those man and women who served. See the Youtube video -

Hello Tony

Interesting video and many thanks for sharing.

Well done to Blackburn Museum for preserving and displaying this important record. I'm working on several projects in Rawtenstall area, adjacent to Darwen, and one of them is a similar memorial from Ilex Mill in Rawtenstall.  No such happy ending here as this memorial with 11 names is "whereabouts not known".

Regards

PM to follow on another Darwen related matter.

Tony, are you still looking for information about George Cockshoot MM? He was my Grandpa's uncle, from Darwen. My Grandpa told me quite a lot about George, all passed down to him from his Mum and uncles. They lived on Harwood Street.

Regards, Dominic

Also, my Grandpa worked at Greenfield Mill for years, as did my Mum and Auntie,  we all lived on Garden Village.

Many thanks for your message. I would be interested in any information you might have in George. I am trying to develop a database of Darwen men and women who served in WW1. Interesting to note the Harwood Street address as I also lived on the same street

Regards, Tony
