travers61 Posted 30 October , 2020 Share Posted 30 October , 2020 For France, looks like most of the ribbons are here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ribbons_of_the_French_military_and_civil_awards and the medals here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orders,_decorations,_and_medals_of_France Travers
aim Posted 30 October , 2020 Share Posted 30 October , 2020 Could it be the medal for a Chevalier de la Legion D'Honneur de la troisieme Republique Francais (issued 1870-1940)? I don't know if a picture would help (perhaps with the ribbon and any inscription on the back). aim
ozmedals Posted 31 October , 2020 Share Posted 31 October , 2020 (edited) can you post a photo of the medal ? 3rd republic - the year 1870 appears on the obverse, with Honneur et patrie on the reverse - 1870 to ww2 4th republic - a single star appears below the obverse head, with a wreath-type design below the flags on the reverse - 1951-1962 Edited 31 October , 2020 by ozmedals
Kitchener's Bugle Posted 4 November , 2020 Share Posted 4 November , 2020 If this is the medal @arantxa then it is the Legion D’Honneur 1870-1951 Knight.
ozmedals Posted 4 November , 2020 Share Posted 4 November , 2020 yes, as mentioned, if this is your one, it will have the date of 1870 on the obverse, below the head. It dates from 1870 to 1951 The Legion d'Honneur is the highest French order, in the 5 usual classes. The silver badge is the 5th class, or knight. the 4th class is in silver gilt with a rosette on the ribbon, officer the third class, commander is on a neck ribbon, etc etc

ozmedals Posted 6 November , 2020 Share Posted 6 November , 2020 yes it was awarded to British and colonial soldiers for both wars. I think the ww2 awards would definitely be rarer
