pgarwood Posted 19 October , 2020 Share Posted 19 October , 2020 (edited) I have been researching the above. I came across this interesting document : https://archive.org/details/officialregulati00centrich/page/n1/mode/2up (This is an archived copy of the Official Regulations for Volunteer Training Corps (VTC) and for County Volunteer Organisations.) I have researched into several of these County versions and tried to research them, particularly Monmouthshire and Glamorganshire. One intriguing finding is that the London Gazette records the ranks and appointments granted to the officers who ran these organisations yet on working through County Archives, and the National Archives none of these officers have any trace of their time with the organisations recorded. Each Corps was expected to keep a Corps Register. The regulations state that officers in the VTC cannot be given commissions. The regulations required quite detailed reports of the activity of the Corps but as far as I can tell in the two Counties I have looked at none have survived. I am presuming that the ranks granted to men in the VTC were just honorary and as such no official file was maintained by the Central Asoociation of Volunteer Training Corps or the War Office. It seems that an interesting area of the Great War at home has simply disappeared. If anyone has any views I would appreciate it. Michael Pegum Posted 19 October , 2020 Share Posted 19 October , 2020 (edited) Naval and Military Press recently published a book on this subject by Roy Westlake: GUIDE TO THE VOLUNTEER TRAINING CORPS 1914 1918 https://www.naval-military-press.com/product/guide-to-the-volunteer-training-corps/ Michael (I have nothing to do with this firm, by the way!)
