Norwester Posted 12 October , 2020 Share Posted 12 October , 2020 Hi folks, I was wondering if anyone could recommend some decent movies that center on either of the following: 1) American forces in WW1. 2) The Allied intervention in the Russian Civil War. Preferably something that gets it right when it comes to historical authenticity (even if the characters are made up).
Moonraker Posted 12 October , 2020 Share Posted 12 October , 2020 "Sergeant York" comes to mind - it's available on YouTube. By way of prompt, there's a long list of WWI films here, some of which obviously relate to Americans, but when it comes to historical authenticity ... Norwester Posted 12 October , 2020 Author Share Posted 12 October , 2020 Thanks Moonraker. Yeah, looking at online lists of movies isn't the best when I'm trying to find something historically authentic. That's why I thought I'd ask on a forum like this, where history-enthusiasts might be able to offer ones they think are good. Anyone have anything to say about this movie? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lost_Battalion_(2001_film)
Moonraker Posted 12 October , 2020 Share Posted 12 October , 2020 In addition to any comments about particular films from us here on the GWF, you may find IMDB useful. And we have existing threads on certain films that may be traced by Googling "Great War Forum [name of film]". I like WWI films but don't claim to be an expert on authenticity, and I'll be interested to see what titles my learned friends come up with. Moonraker Posted 13 October , 2020 Share Posted 13 October , 2020 Let us know if you do! My very quick Google leads only to trailers and a 1986 Chinese (?) film.
Waddell Posted 13 October , 2020 Share Posted 13 October , 2020 The Lost Battalion isn't a bad movie. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lost_Battalion_(2001_film) Scott

After reading reviews I went ahead and ordered it, found a cheap copy online. Looking forward to it.

Waddell Posted 15 October , 2020 Share Posted 15 October , 2020 Just returning to Norwester's original question. Are there any movies centered around the Allied involvement in the Russian Civil War?
Martin Bennitt Posted 15 October , 2020 Share Posted 15 October , 2020 Bertrand Tavernier’s film Capitaine Conan relates the experience of French troops after Salonica who were sent on garrison duty to Romania then fought against Bolshevik forces. Don’t know how accurate it is (it’s based on Roger Vercel’s Goncourt-winning 1934 novel) but it’s a cracking good movie. The DVD has English subtitles Cheers Martin B
