Attached are extracts from the death report of Pte. Andrew C Paterson.

From the Dundee Courier 16 June 1916:

From the Montrose, Arbroath & Brechin Review 23 June 1916 and at least one other local newspaper:

Obviously a mis-transcription in one case (or more). But which?

According to his attestation form he was a rancher somewhere near Medicine Hat. At least three of his brothers were in Canada all of whom eventually enlisted. (Two were killed and the other wounded.)

Presuming you are again referring to Andrew Coutts PATERSON. 108445, 2CMR

For what it is worth and only an opinion without evidence [just a feeling which I know some won't like as no evidence] - but a Broker just does not seem as likely as a Brother.

Can you identify a brother who didn't sign up / remained in Canada, or even Scotland??

Thanks,

I've been thinking the same. Somehow "broker" and "rancher" didn't seem to belong together.  I know of four brothers in Canada before 1914. All eventually served.I think that one was conscripted in 1918. The other two enlisted in 1915 and 1916. (One of them was running a hardware store in Cobalt, Ontario. I think it probably wasn't him.)
