While the cross hatch pattern of chevrons were not uncommon during the Great War originals are surprisingly scare to find today. If I recall they were a Great War expedient and ceased being issued and worn shortly after the end of the war. I am sure there is a LoC number out there which will pin down the date. Superb photo of the Leeds Pal and his WAAC Wife or Sweetheart.
