david murdoch Posted 30 September , 2020 Share Posted 30 September , 2020 His medal index card shows David Stenhouse and service number as S/24717. Medal roll shows he was 4/5th Battalion. This battalion was formed 16th March 1916 with the amalgamation of 1/4th and 1/5th battalions. Both those were already in France, so possibly he joined them as a replacement in 1916. He possibly had home service with another Battalion which would not be listed on the medal roll. He only shows the one service number and does not have a 14/15 Star. He appears to have survived the war. Looking at the Scottish 1911 Census and filtering by likely age I'd say there are probably three possible matches for him, all from Kirkaldy/Fife area - these would be aged 14,16 and 20 in 1915. I'd say most likely the one aged 16 ( born 1898). There is one other David Stenhouse in the right age group from Midlothian, who I am sure is one killed in action with 9th Royal Scots.
