Remembered Today:

(Relatively) Senior NCOs and Officers from UK based units: Were they given any form of training before they went to the front?

I have come across a small number of officers and NCOs who had been serving with UK based units who went overseas quite late in the war (for example, two sergeants). Was any training provided since they would be expected to have experience equivalent to their rank?

Yes, training was always progressive and in general special-to-role.  The longer the war went on the more sophisticated and meaningfully organised it became.  They would also have received in theatre training at infantry base depots or equivalents appropriate to their role/employment.  There were also a range of Army, Corps and Divisional level schools covering a range of training appropriate to trench warfare.

Thank you,

It may be coincidence but none of them served with the regiment with which they had served in the UK.

Most likely re-routed at an infantry base depot.
