Remembered Today:

What was Grandads Disability

Recommended Posts

HI. I am research my grandad including his war service for my Auntie who will soon be 90. I tried to look for information on him a few years ago Gnr 114796 L Darlington RGA but no service papers survive. I was just looking on Ancestry just in case anything else had turned up on him when I noticed he had a Pension Ledger for a disability. As far as we know he was never wounded so if possible could someone please tell us what was his disability. Thank You

I can see there is a Fold3 pension record but unfortunately I can't access it.

Could be wrong and may get corrected but I thought an ailment showing on these records may be one that manifested itself after discharge. So, deemed fit and healthy at discharge 7/3/1919 and later claimed for a disability?

Red date stamp on MIC of 1/10/1986. This has come up before with varied answers. Long after his death in 1953. There was one answer where a genealogical enquiry to the medal office ties in with the date stamped in red.

I have looked at his Pension Card (Fold3 via WFA) but whilst it lists his personal details: address 50 Davis Street, West Bank, Widnes, date of discharge 07 Mar 19, and shows that he was entitled to a pension, the disability paragraph is blank.

Addition: On the left there is a series of dates. It looks as if the entitlement was identified 13 Jan 20 and 'OK' 10 Oct 21. The final (black) date stamp reads 'OK 25 Jun 25.

Would the red date correspond with when documents were scanned for online/electronic use?  Perhaps enquiries brought out documents which in turn were scanned because they were out.  We used to do that when turning paper records into electronic and often scanned stuff out of sync purely because it rose its head.

These type of date stamps seem to cover 1960s - 80s. Not sure when the MICs were passed to PRO. Scanning for online use circa 1986?
