Acknown Posted 29 August , 2020 Share Posted 29 August , 2020 First thoughts: In the history of 67th (2nd Home Counties) Division, LLT states: 'Initial orders were to form the Division in the area around Windsor, and the three infantry brigades were duly located at Staines, Ascot and Sunninghill. By November 1915 the Division came under orders of Second Army, Central Force and had moved to Sevenoaks (HQ and 201 Brigade), Reigate and Redhill (200 Brigade), Tonbridge (202 Brigade and two RE Field Companies), Brighton (cyclists), Southborough (one RE Field Company). The artillery was scattered at Westerham, Brasted, Riverhead, Seal and Ightham. Further moves were made in 1916, with HQ going to Canterbury, but the Division remained in Kent.' Stanley Williams", etc etc
Acknown Posted 29 August , 2020 Share Posted 29 August , 2020 Indeed, the photo is inscribed 'Easter 1916'. That Tuesday would have been 25th April 1916. Acknown

johndavidswarbrick Posted 31 August , 2020 Share Posted 31 August , 2020 The 202nd Infantry Brigade held their sports days on Easter Monday and Tuesday on Tonbridge Schol playing fields. The first day of prelimiaries and heats went well, but the second day with the finals had to be cancelled due to the exigencies of war. Notices were posted all around the town to that effect, then, at the eleventh hour, the program was reinstated and went ahead as was originally planned, but with many fewer townspeople attending that would have been the case had the confusion over cancellation not happened. The 202nd Infantry Brigade were in Tonbridge from January to August 1916. Flemons took many photos of the various units which were stationed at Tonbridge duing the war, a number of which are reproduced in "Military Matters in Tonbridge" by myself and Pam Mills, still available from Mr Books at Tonbridge - profits to Royal British Legion.
