Hi im reading a book called History in an hour 1914, it doesn't go into detail, it gives brief information of important events and it mentions people briefly like Thomas Highgate who was executed on 8 September 1914,  Joseph Joffre french commander in chief and Gallieni.   I am reading the chapter about the first battle of the marne,   I make myself question and answer notes to help me to remember facts,  could you check them for me please,  Here's what i've typed so far.   Thanks.

 

Where did the Allies retreat to?   The river Marne

Where did General Joffre stop the French retreat?   South of the river Marne

When was the Battle of Charleroi?    22 August 1914

Where did the French government flee to fearing German attacks on Paris? Bordeaux

Where did General Joffre decide to counterattack the German army?   River Marne

 

When was The First Battle of the Marne?   5 September 1914

How many French troops were at the Battle of the Marne?   around one million

Who was Thomas Highgate?  A British Private

When was Thomas Highgate executed?   8 September 1914

Why was Thomas Highgate executed?  Because he was found guilty of desertion

Who spotted the 30 mile gap between the German armies?   British reconnaissance planes

Who filled the gap that developed between the two German armies?  The BEF

 Who was the military governor  of Paris?  Joseph Gallieni

What did Gallieni use to transport extra troops to the Battle of the Marne?  Taxis

How many Taxis were used to take extra troops to the Marne?   600

Who ordered the Germans to retreat?   Helmuth Von Moltke

Where did the Germans retreat to?   North, to the River Aisne

When did the Germans reach the River Aisne?   13 September 1914

When was Helmuth Von Moltke replaced?  14 September 1914

Who was Helmuth Von Moltke replaced by?   Erich Von Falkenhayn
