Remembered Today:

"discharge in goal"

Kath

Recommended Posts

In a crew list a man has "discharge in goal"  in the Particulars of Discharge column.

What does this mean, please?

He might have been discharged to shore - SNLR( Services No Longer Required) after his spell in cells.

Is it possible for you to post his Service Record so this comment might be seen in context with other entries?

Might assist in interpreting this entry.

Thanks,

Bryan

From the Log of the Alnwick Castle 1916.

Mis- spelling by Captain?

Does not assist me without viewing in context with his other entries Kath, perhaps a mate will be able to provide some information somewhat better than I.

Best... Bryan

I'm inclined to think that it's a typo and they meant "gaol". Or maybe J McBride's record as 'keeper for the ships football team was so abysmal that they decided to replace him.
