sw63 Posted 4 August , 2020 Share Posted 4 August , 2020 Hi all, I'm trying to get in touch with a contributor from "Lives of the First World War" by the handle MICHAEL 27106 who I hope is a Forum member. He posted this photo on the "Lives..." website attached to George Lewis. I'm wanting some more information about this photo and perhaps also about George himself. The reason for my interest is that Sgt George Lewis was the witness for the Soldier's Will of 6552 Pte Peter Quinn, who died 30th September 1915 at Loos. My guess is George Lewis was Peter Quinn's platoon sergeant. If George Lewis is in this photo, then I believe Peter Quinn is also. If anyone else has any info at all about this photo, I'd love to hear. I THINK the officer on the right is Captain the Hon H.R. Alexander DSO MC - later Field Marshall The 1st Earl Alexander of Tunis.
museumtom Posted 4 August , 2020 Share Posted 4 August , 2020 Do you have an image of Peter Quinn, or George Lewis?

I have a very tenuous belief that Peter Quinn might be in the middle row, third soldier from the right - mainly based on age (19) and the soldier to his left may possibly be 6551 Pte Christopher Gogarty (my great uncle) based on the similarity of his facial features to my grandfather. I'm probably clutching at straws... Edited 4 August , 2020 by sw63
sw63 Posted 4 August , 2020 Author Share Posted 4 August , 2020 Right, George's brother I take it. So not George's platoon - therefore unlikely to be Peter Quinn's... Thanks for that, Tom.
museumtom Posted 4 August , 2020 Share Posted 4 August , 2020 The parents of Mr Peter Quinn, who resided at Boardsmill, near Trim, have just received information from the War Office that their son has fallen in battle. The sad intelligence has caused widespread regret in the district. This looks like Charles Lewis so it could be his brother. Compare.
