Remembered Today:

Pietro Cavallini, Carabiniere a Piedi

My soon-to-be daughter-in-law has just seen the British Naturalisation papers for her great grandfather, Pietro Cavallini. In the extract she sent me, it states that her served between 1915 and 1919 in the Carabiniere a Piedi ('on foot', one assumes) in Rome, Florence and Siena, and on the Italian Front. From December 1918 to August 1919 was with the Italian Military Attache in London, being discharged in Florence in December 1919.

How easy is it to research Italian records of the period? Any suggestions gratefully received.

Cheers. I'll pass it on.

Incidentally, and nothing to do with Pietro or the Great War, I must recommend Mussolini's War, by John Gooch, as an excellent study of the eponymous dictator and Italy during the Second World War. It does serve as a very good follow-on to any study of Italy in the GW,
