My friend has just dug up a 1914-15 Star in his garden! he has passed it on to me for cleaning and research. This is what I have found out: Ernest Vivian BAZIN Private 2160 Honourable Artillery Company Birth & Early Life Born 20/11/1896, Kingsbury, Middlesex. Son of Vivian Bazin (1864-1924) and Florence Sybilla [née Lane] (1871-1956). Baptised at St. Peter, Belsize Park on 2/1/1897. 1901 – a 4 year old living at Eastcote, Willesden, Middlesex, with father (an Insurance Clerk), mother and Annie E. Swann, a 22 year old domestic servant. 1911 – a 14 year old schoolboy living at 23 Cranhurst Road, Cricklewood, with father (an Insurance Clerk), mother and Keziah Florence Bates, a 25 year old domestic servant. Worked as a Clerk at Henry Scott & Son, Clements House, Clements Lane, EC. Enlistment & Home Service Enlisted in the Honourable Artillery Company at Armoury House EC on 7/9/1914. Home service from 7/9/1914 to 30/6/1915. Active Service & Wounded 1/7/1915 transferred to 1st Battalion, HAC, as a Lance-Corporal. In France/Belgium from 1/7/1915 to 24/11/1916. 4/7/1915 – reverted to Private. 27/10/1916 – appointed unpaid Lance Corporal. Wounded on 14/11/1916 (gunshot wound to head). At 9 Casualty Clearing Station, then 10 General Hospital. Return to Home Service Home service from 25/11/1916 to 4/4/1919. In Edmonton Military Hospital 1/12/1916-1/1/1917. Convalesced at Ewen Hall Convalescent, High Barnett. 24/3/1917 – promoted to acting corporal. 14/4/1917 – promoted to acting sergeant. 5/6/1917 attached to the London Command Depot. June 1917 - injured at the Tadworth Gas School which effected eyesight with continual watering. 16/7/1917 posted to 1st Reserve Battalion. Discharge Medical examination at the Tower of London on 28/2/1919. 5/3/1919 – proceeded to Displ. Unit. Discharged on 4/4/1919. Entitled to 1915 Star trio. (Received Star on 21/10/1920). Post-Great War Lived at Adelaide Farm, Langley Vale, Epsom Downs. Lived at Summerhill Cottage, Basildon. Lived a 3 Argyle Road, Westcliffe. 1924 – father died in West Ham. 1942 – was a Merchant Seaman (R118347) – a ship’s Assistant Steward. Lived at Westgarth, Shipwrights Drive, Thundersley. 1956 – mother died in Southend. 1959 – got married to Florence Sarah [née Collins] (12905-1973) at Southend. Edit...unless there is another E V Bazin, in the early 1930's he was living at Woodham Ferrers. Edit 2...from 1927. Edit 3...his father was also HAC until 1905.
