Lawryleslie Posted 15 July , 2020 Share Posted 15 July , 2020 Could be for anything circular shaped. Perhaps a pressure gauge or something like that which came off the ship.
KizmeRD Posted 15 July , 2020 Share Posted 15 July , 2020 Or for displaying some sort of commemorative medallion?
headgardener Posted 15 July , 2020 Share Posted 15 July , 2020 There are lots of different objects were part of a commercial collection made “from the teak of HMS Iron Duke” and with the same commerorative plaque attached. They’re usually desk-top accoutrements like ink-stands, paper-clip holders, blotters, etc, so your item is almost certainly designed to sit on a desk. Having said that, I have a fire stand from the same ‘collection’, which certainly wasn’t designed to sit on a desk.

Interested Posted 15 July , 2020 Share Posted 15 July , 2020 Naval mount - perhaps a deck watch, but these often have their own protective housings, and aren't slim.
KizmeRD Posted 15 July , 2020 Share Posted 15 July , 2020 Ebay is full of teak trinkets with the very same inscription plate (see attached).
