Jervis Posted 14 July , 2020 Share Posted 14 July , 2020 An interesting Podcast on the evolution of a Irish Garrison town (Fermoy) in late 19th & 20th century. It is told around a woman from the town who married an Amry Sergeant, travelled the world, returned to the town and set up a pub By the barracks during WW1 & the independence troubles. Hedley Malloch Posted 15 July , 2020 Share Posted 15 July , 2020 A really good broadcast on a neglected aspect of life in the Edwardian army. I liked the description of married life for OR in the barracks - six soldiers in a room and the married couple have a blanket around the bed. Good, too, on changing attitudes in an Irish garrison town to the British army - not at all hostile until the 1920s. Thoroughly recommend it. https://irishhistorypodcast.ie/ is a great site for anyone with an interest in Irish history. Thanks for the link.
