Calling Dick Flory // the Old Lawrentian Register

Hello,

I hope it's okay to ask... I have seen Dick Flory post elsewhere that he has a copy of the Old Lawrentian Register 1879-1934, giving details of former pupils of the school. I am looking for information about a Frederick Charles Barker (born 1891) who served with the ASC / RASC from 1914 to 1918, enlisting as a private and leaving as an (acting?) Captain. I attach a copy of his medal card. I would be very grateful for any more biographical info or help deciphering his unit -- was it M2. It's hard to get into the libraries at the moment and track down my own copy of the register.

Also, it seems unusual that a privately educated 23 year man would enter the ASC as a private and then be commissioned through the ranks? Or perhaps not..

Thanks very much indeed,

Sam Knight

Sam:  Actually the reference is titled Register of St. Lawrence College 1879 to 1934. It shows the following on your man:

Barker, Frederick Charles. Born 12 July 1891. At St Lawrence School from Summer Term 1905 to Lent Term 1908. Chartered Accountant (ACA). Pete. ASC (MT). 1914. 2nd Lieut., 1915. Lieut., 1916; Capt. 1917. Twice mentioned in dispatches. Company Secretary, Accountant and Manager, Sharp & Co. Ltd, Automobile Engineers, Bromley. Lives at Lea Bank, 4 Beaconsfield Road, Bickley, Kent.

Regards, Dick Flory
