Chef_Hendrix Posted 8 July , 2020 Share Posted 8 July , 2020 (edited) Good Afternoon all, I've been researching Sgt R Renner, M2/020123 and fortunately parts of his service records still exist. It is clear from his records that his last unit was the 363 MT Coy, O Siege Park, but I would gratefully seek the Forums advice on what I believe could be a previous unit. He arrived in France on the 20th Dec 1914 and next to his arrival dates appears to be written (27 Div. FA.WU) which I think may be the the 27th Divisional Field Ambulance Workshop Unit (FAWU) or 27th Motor Ambulance Unit on the LLT (Which I assume is another name/term for the FAWU). Looking at the WD of the 27th Div, his arrival also coincides with their arrival in France. 1. Does anyone think that what is written on his record and what would appear to be his first ASC Unit overseas is possibly the 27th Divisional FAWU? 2. If it his unit, and as the LLT states that the Workshop joined the 27th Div. in Feb 15 would he have been sent across as an ASC MT Sgt in Dec 1914 with the 27th and later assigned to the 27th FAWU with his record later updated to reflect this? (my feeling is that it was updated later) 3. Looking at Army Form B.122 he has 3 reprimands and the 1st is awarded by the O/C of 83rd FA which ties in nicely with the 27th Div and their own Field Ambulances. But is anyone able to decipher who awarded the other 2? (the second I know is very faded) 4. When the 27th Div. left in late 1915 for Salonika, the LLT records that the 27th Divisional Train (95-98 ASC) remained in France and joined the 55th Division and became the 55th Div Train. It also records that the 27th Ambulance Workshop remained in France but unfortunately does not say where it went. Is it safe to assume that the 27th FAWU also joined the 55th Div as their Div Ambulance Workshop? The LLT has the 55th Div Ambulance Workshop joining on the 6th Jan 1916 and later absorbed into the Div Supply Column in Apr 1916. Thank you in advance I've also been searching for his medals for some years, (QSA & FWW Trio) if anyone knows the whereabouts I would be grateful for any information. Possibly ASC temp Captain/ acting Major MID London Gazette 24-12-17 page 13474. For the second reprimand I cannot help as yet. Regards, Bob. I'm at work today but when I'm back home tomorrow I'll be able to invert the colours. Thanks again Gaz
