Remembered Today:

Imperial Japanese Navy?

Afternoon all,

The photograph album I am working through has thrown up a group photograph which includes a staff surgeon of the Imperial Japanese Navy. His surname appears to be Kamagarua, although that may be spelt as it is due to a failure of hearing or understanding.

I've searched online in vain, and in all my usual sources, but haven't been able to find him. Is there a Japanese equivalent of the Navy List?

Picture appended, for your interest.

Hi Jane,

Sounds very intriguing!  Pls keep us posted!

I wonder why his is out of uniform, he might have been taking a course at Haslar?

I suspect that was probably the case - I think I've seen similar before, though of a much more recent date.

Jane,

Yes there was a Japanese equivalent of the Navy List; I'm not familiar with the specifics of it, but I’ve seen it mentioned on Combined Fleet as a reference when they identify the commanding officers of Japanese vessels.

Best wishes,

Michael
