Sidney Albert Causon of the 1/5th Glo'sters was the third cousin to my great great grandfather John Sidney Causon (who married Bess Brooker, George Brooker's sister).

I visited Sid's grave last year, and was inspired to do my research on him. I have found newspaper articles that have been written by him, which I will attach here for you all to read.

Sidney was in the Cheltenham Gordon Boys Brigade from 1911, though I'm unaware of his occupation there. He enlisted on the 28th August 1914 and was drafted to France on the 30th March, after training in Chelmsford (where he quoted "we used to mourn our lot", referencing the territorials being dubbed "Saturday night soldiers"). He was in the A Coy; I would appreciate any group photographs of the A Coy, in case I can spot Sid!

His articles were written from April - June 1915, where he speaks of a concertina sent to his company, played very well by C J Carpenter, who was a drummer. Drummer Carpenter arranged a musical performance with the concertina, which is mentioned in the June 1915 edition of the Fifth Glo'ster Gazette. Sid also praises his officers.

Sid was KIA on the 23rd July, 1916, in the Battle of Pozieres. I have read from the war diary for the 1/5th Glo'sters that the A Coy advanced from the right - SidneyIMG_20191027_095133.jpg.742bc9cd2f81b8e8b60b882c465cf2c5.jpg managed to reach a German trench, but as he endeavoured to do so, he was killed. Visiting his grave has been life changing, and I have found many things about him. He was also the brother of Hubert Thomas Causon, who I see has been mentioned in this forum before. I would appreciate any information on Hubert too.
