Identification help - Officer's Sam Browne holster

RangeRover

Recommended Posts

Hello there.

Hoping to draw, again, on the knowledge here to help me place the holster pictured below which I believe is Great War vintage. Any markings on the reverse side on the belt flap are illegible due to wear at that point, sadly. No interior markings. Will accommodate a revolver with a 6" barrel.

I have seen similar holsters described as "cavalry" holsters, but suspect that is merely sales talk. All guidance welcomed and thank you.

Hi

its a later model Sam Browne Webley pistol case. Early models have the addition of a flap with a brass hook to secure it in place on the belt. The straps with the clips on are certainly much later additions as most altered examples have stitched loops holding the clips. However the alteration is old. The alteration is to allow the case to either hang from the D rings on the belt or from a strap

Thanks Dave. So by "later model" still Great War, or later (and therefore out of scope of this forum)?  Thanks.
