58 Div Mule

In memory of the men of the 11th, 12th and 13th Battalions of the Royal Sussex Regiment (Southdowns) who fell in action on this day in 1916. The Brigade attacked a feature known as 'The Boar's Head' at Richebourg in a prelude to the great assault on the Somme to their south.

For those interested I'd recommend John A Baines's book 'The Day Sussex Died'.

Well remembered 58DM. I found this on the WW1 battlefields facebook page; although I wonder if one of the forum's ace photographers may have been involved. This is the ground across which the Royal Sussex attacked. Not forgotten.
