good morning ALL

while on a bike ride     during the K19 virus

i passed by a friend  outside in a garden      ,we got taking about    the flax factory we they worked then on to   subject of World War  One

her Nan   could not understand   why  her relation   a Soldier   by the name of    JOHN PETER SMITH      BORN    HARTEST     SUFFOLK  on  28 oct 1884

who died   out in France     died   15 /nov/ 1916

why he was in a Lincolnshire     Reg     and not the Suffolk  regiment

now if my memoir serves me correct     i think a lot of Suffolk    Reg  , lost so many men  in 1914/1915    they were    joined up   to other units across   england

the medal card     gives the  reg no as follows    Suffolk  PTE     347P7         and      LINC S    403392

any help would be most    welcome      regards      Civis     Vic   Hill

As the war moved on the niceties of geography went out the window and men were sent to wherever the army needed them.

Note that his service numbers are #34797 and #40392.

Looking at other men it seems to have been a bulk transfer at a depit

#40376 Lincs was issued to a man transferred from the Suffolks, formally #34433. The transfer happened on 30 Oct 1916 from a depot. The man had arrived in France on 18 Oct 1916 badged to the Suffolks.
