dman Posted 21 June , 2020 Share Posted 21 June , 2020 During discussion in the ARMS & EQUIPMENT section concerning the Turkish 1887 Mauser rifle, an 8 shot repeater using 9.5mm black powder cartridge, references were made to its use by Wurttemberg Landsturm units for rear echelon duties The 1887 Mausers were leftovers from Turkish contract for 500,000 rifle/50,000 carbines. Turks had a conversion clause which required Mauser to fill the remainder of the contract with improved models of Mauser rifles In 1890 Turks enforced the clause after 220,000 rifles had been produced requiring Mauser to produce the new Mauser 1890 in 7.65 smokeless ( a modification of Belgian 1889) Some 25,00 rifles in varying stages of completion were leftover, Mauser stored them . When World War I broke out retrieved the stored rifles and finished them They were issued to Wurttemberg Landsturm units Question is does anyone know of which units these unique rifles might had been issued to Thanx
