G'day Chums,

I am wondering if anyone is able to give me information on the activities of 280 Company, Army Service Corps. 280 Company was, according to the information on The Long Long Trail, formed in March 1915, was also called 1st Auxiliary HT Company, and was based at Rouen. I have been unable to locate diaries on the National Archives site.

Any information, or ideas to locate information, on this Company's activities is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Mark

Hello Mark

I think that the info on The Long Long Trail probably came from Michael Young's book  Army Service Corps 1902-1918. It is possible (with respect to the late Col Young) that this was an error and that he is referring to another type of company, such as an Advanced HT Depot. The same book gives 425 Company as 1 Army Auxiliary HT Company.

You might be able to find more information in these diaries:

WO 95/4043 Rouen Base: Commandant 1914 Aug. - 1918 Dec.
WO 95/4044
WO 95/4044 Rouen Base
WO 95/4044 Assistant Director Medical Services 1914 Oct. - 1919 Nov.
WO 95/4044 Specialist Sanitary Officer 1915 Dec. - 1919 Jan.
WO 95/4045
WO 95/4045 Rouen Base
WO 95/4045 Commander Royal Engineers 1915 July - 1919 Mar.
WO 95/4045 Chief Ordnance Officer 1915 Jan. - 1916 Feb.

WO 95/4046 Rouen Base
WO 95/4046 Chief Ordnance Officer 1916 Mar. - 1918 Dec.
WO 95/4046 Officer in Charge Supplies 1918 June - Dec.
WO 95/4046 Deputy Assistant Director Labour 1917 May - 1918 Feb.
although I am not sure whether they have been put online yet.

Hi

Youngs says

280  role "1st Auxiliary HT Company" No WO/95 number.

425 role "1st Army Auxiliary HT Company" WO/95 number 265 and 152. (differing, obviously, dates of formation etc.)

Is there a difference between "1st Auxiliary HT Company" and "1st Army Auxiliary HT Company" ?? I dont know the answer,

Regards,

Graeme

Thank you both for your input.

Since they have different company numbers, I doubt that they are the same unit. I suspect that 280 Company was used for transport duties within the (fairly large) Rouen Base.
