Thatww1pigeon Posted 16 June , 2020 Share Posted 16 June , 2020 Hi there everyone. I think these are French ww1 binoculars, but I’m not quite sure. There does not seem to be any markings on the outside. I was even able to take to apart and still no sign of anything. Maybe it just rubbed off over time. Any help identifying the model or anything would be helpful. Thanks.
sr97 Posted 29 June , 2020 Share Posted 29 June , 2020 Appear to be French, an identical pair on ebay had them listed as 'French Field Glasses'; https://www.ebay.ie/itm/WWI-Binoculars-French-Military-Field-Glasses-Paris-Good-Condition-/131674794096
Thatww1pigeon Posted 30 June , 2020 Author Share Posted 30 June , 2020 Hmm, interesting. Thanks sr97. Fascinating the person said they were given to the Russian army. But I too agree they are simply French on their own.
MikB Posted 30 June , 2020 Share Posted 30 June , 2020 If they're devoid of markings I wouldn't think there's any way to know. French is by far the greatest probability, but other nations including Britain did make similar designs.
Thatww1pigeon Posted 2 July , 2020 Author Share Posted 2 July , 2020 (edited) Possibly. Just took apart the binoculars another time over and found France etched into one of the outside parts. Had to look very closely to see it, it’s very hard to make out. But who knows, could be from any nation really. It seems that it was done so with something sharp, maybe a soldier.
